Pinterest,the social media site helped to find a woman’s bracelet stolen over 30 years ago, according to Redwood City Police.On Feb. 7, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a car in the 2600 block of El Camino Real shortly before 10:30 a.m., Lt. Sean Hart said Friday.The officer searched the vehicle and find a jewelry bag.

One of the pieces of jewelry was a charm bracelet with the names and dates of births engraved on the charms, possibly the children of whoever owned the bracelet.Investigators asked the public for more information on the bracelet’s owner by posting on the police department’s Nixle alert system, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

In February the police department also launched a Pinterest account for the public containing photos of stolen property recovered by officers.Within eight hours of posting on the social media sites, three people contacted police and gave information that helped identify the bracelet’s owner.The three people accessed private databases to research the names and birth dates on the bracelet that helped police identify the owner.A detective contacted the owner and learned the bracelet was stolen during a 1983 residential burglary in San Jose.

The bracelet’s owner confirmed that the names and birth dates on the jewelry were of all her children.The woman is the fourth person to be reunited with stolen property since the department launched its Pinterest site about two months ago.Officers arrested 32-year-old Ivette Sanjuan of East Palo Alto on suspicion of possessing stolen property and booked her into San Mateo County Jail.
