against the army, Michel Kafando assigns and dismisses security minister



Light reshuffle in Burkina Faso. The transitional president Michel Kafando dismissed on Sunday the Minister of Security, Colonel Auguste Denise Barry. He bowed to pressure from the army, which demanded the departure of the Minister.

Sweep in the Burkinabe government. Indeed, the transitional president Michel Kafando after taking over the Ministry of Defence to his prime minister Issac Zida, decided Sunday to dismiss Colonel Auguste Denise Barry. A decision that was made as a result of the army’s pressure. Michel Kafando now stack the portfolios of Minister of Defense and of Security.

With this dismissal, the president of the transition hope to end the tensions between the army and Prime Minister Isaac Zida. The army called for the resignation of the Prime Minister last week. The army accuses the Colonel Auguste Denise Barry “to instrumentalize the civil society organizations that require a reform of the military and especially the dissolution of the Presidential Security Regiment (RSP).

Furthermore the dismissal, some ministerial portfolios were distributed. Michel Kafando sold its foreign minister to the Minister for Regional Cooperation Moussa Nebie. Moreover, Issouf Ouattara, was appointed Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization. He occupied the far post of Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment.

Three months before the Presidential whose first round is scheduled on October 11, the transitional government changes course to ease tension and to better prepare the handover with the executive elected in October.
