The record of serious flooding in Myanmar rose to 69 dead and 259 799 people were affected by the disaster so far, announced Wednesday the Ministry of Social Affairs, Relief and Resettlement. The floods have affected much of the country and four states and regions (Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing and Magway) were declared disaster areas.The floods began to move south of the country and it is possible that they extend to more areas, warned the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The Chinese rescue team led by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar has launched operations in Rakhine State and in the regions of Sagaing and Magway with financial assistance worth $ 300,000.A team of ten members of the largest non-governmental organization humanitarian Chinese, Blue Sky, arrived Tuesday in Rangoon to help disaster victims.
In response to the appeal launched Tuesday by the Burmese authorities, the UN and international humanitarian organizations also provide humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.
Some countries, including Norway, Singapore and Thailand, have also promised to provide assistance to the affected regions.According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, 445,747 hectares of farmland were flooded in 13 countries and regions across the country. Bago region was the most severely affected with over 124,508 hectares flooded. Driven by heavy seasonal rains that batter the country since June, floods have hit several parts of the country, destroying houses, farmland, railways, bridges and roads.
